Karungali is the Tamil name for natural black Ebony wood (Diospyros ebenum). It is a dense, naturally black hardwood that has been used for malas, bracelets and sacred objects in South Indian tradition for centuries.

In Tamil tradition Karungali is considered Lord Murugan's sacred wood. Devotees wear Karungali malas and bracelets as a sign of devotion and to seek his protection, and many temples dedicated to Murugan use Karungali in worship.

Traditionally, Karungali is believed to absorb negative energy, protect the wearer from evil eye, and ease the effects of Shani (Saturn), Rahu and Mangal (Mars). It is also worn for focus, calm and stability. These benefits are based on traditional and spiritual belief.

Natural Karungali is very dense and heavy for its size, has a deep, even black colour with fine natural grain, and does not leave colour on a damp white cloth. Our Karungali is tested by Cambay Gemmological Lab and confirmed as natural Karungali.

Karungali can be worn by men and women of any age. It is especially popular with devotees of Lord Murugan and with people seeking traditional remedies for Shani, Rahu or Mangal.

Traditionally, Karungali is first worn on a Tuesday (Lord Murugan's day) or a Saturday (Shani's day), after cleansing it and chanting "Om Saravana Bhava" or your chosen mantra.

Remove it before bathing or swimming, keep it away from perfume, soap and chemicals, and wipe it with a soft dry cloth. A drop of natural oil once a month keeps the wood from drying out. Store it in a clean pouch when not in use.
